One of the best strategies for staying on top of the current trends is attending software testing conferences where you can listen to thought leaders and practitioners share best practices. This year, there are some great conferences for software testers to attend. Below are some of our favorites that you will want to check out. We will be at most of these conferences as a sponsor so make sure to stop by our booth and grab some QASymphony schwag.
The STAR conferences are consistently great events. They get some of the top speakers in testing and pack-in a ton of content. You can’t leave the show without learning a lot and making some good connections. A nice bonus is that they hold the conference around the Disney parks so you might be able to work-in a little family vacation. For our Canadian friends, there’s also StarCanada October 23-27 in Toronto.
Agile Alliance puts the definitive show for anyone in the Agile world. With over 200 sessions there will be something for everyone. This year Agile 2016 is coming to our hometown of Atlanta, GA. Atlanta is a great venue for a conference. We have the busiest airport in the world, so you shouldn’t have trouble getting a flight here. The city has a lot to offer – great restaurants, aquarium, Coca-Cola museum, College Football Hall of Fame and much more. We hope to see you in Atlanta for Agile2016!
Our friends at TestBash always put on a good show. It’s shorter than some of the other conferences but they pack a lot into the time they have. It’s definitely one of the more fun shows to attend. If you can’t make it to the UK, they usually do a NYC TestBash sometime in November. They haven’t released details yet on their website.
This year QASymphony is putting together our own testing conference and we’re calling it “Quality Jam”. We’re bringing in some great speakers like best-selling author Scott Berkun and thought leader Keith Klain. We’ll also have a preview of our product roadmap. And, this is just a one-day event so you can minimize your time out-of-office.
I wouldn’t refer to Atlassian Summit as a “testing conference”. But, they do have some great sessions on testing and many of the companies that make the testing add-ons for the Atlassian Marketplace will be there. The event is a great gathering of professionals from the DevOps world and the content is about effective collaboration among teams which is valuable content for testers. They also throw a great party called “Summit Bash”.
Do you want to visit Prague? Well, the CzechTest Conference should give you a good excuse to make the trip. CzechTest will be held May 18-20. This is a conference has some big name speakers including Rex Black, Lloyd Roden, Martin Pol, Julie Gardiner, Lee Copeland, Tom Gilb and many more. According to Conference Chair, Marcel Veselka, “Prague is especially lovely in May and the beer tastes even better than usual. So it’s a fantastic time to visit Prague and have a few beers with us apart from talks about testing.” Now that’s a pretty good sales pitch.
CAST is known for being a more interactive conference. Sessions are split into two parts – half presentation and half open discussion. It makes for a very immersive experience for the audience. And, Vancouver is a beautiful place to visit in August.
QUEST offers classes, tutorials, educational sessions, hand-on workshops, discussions groups, and networking events. There is also a large expo where you can check out the latest software tools and services. Topics include agile, test design, automation, mobile, DevOps and much more.
I hope this list gives you some ideas on where to go and what to do this year. We hope to see you at some of these great software testing conferences in 2016!
