Quality Jam 2017: Tips for Getting the Most Out of Quality Jam

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Quality Jam

We’ve been gearing up for this year’s Quality Jam since last year. Here are some things you can do now to get ready for next week:

  • Check out the schedule at Qualityjam.com. This year we will have 2 tracks, so take a look at the sessions and decide which session you want to attend (teaser videos from our speakers). I recommend adding the sessions you don’t want to miss to your calendar and set some goals up around them.
  • Set a goal. Think about the knowledge, connections, skills, you want to get from Quality Jam 2017.
  • Nail down your “tell me about yourself” pitch.  We all hate awkward silences so prep some questions and ice breakers for networking when you meet someone new.  The evening event at Sweetwater Brewing Company will be a great time to channel your inner networker.
  • Come up with a system for remembering people. Whether you start a collection of business cards or decide to friend them on LinkedIn or Twitter.
  • RSVP for the pre-conference BONUS SESSION. Due to popular demand we have added a session on Tues morning at 11am covering how to migrate off HP Quality Center. As you probably know, HPE recently sold its enterprise software to Micro Focus, which has caused a lot of concern. This session will cover how to successfully migrate from Quality Center to a new test management solution. RSVP Required
  • Josh and Chuck from Stuff You Should Know. (One of the most popular podcasts in the WORLD) have created a special performance just for Quality Jam.  Mark your calendar – they are kicking us off on Wed morning at 9:15 AM.
  • Meet our sponsors. Don’t miss the opportunity to talk to our amazing sponsors in the Expo Hall: Clearvision, Mobile Labs, TestPlant, Forty8Fifty,  KMS Technology, and Per Scholas.
  • Stop by the QASymphony Product Hub.  Meet the folks behind our products, ask questions about what’s coming up on product roadmaps, get a demo of a QASymphony product or one of our partners integrations.
  • Take notes! If you are a big note taker you might want to get to the sessions early to score a seat with a table at the front. And if you like to photograph slides, leave your phone on and camera ready – sometimes those slides go by quickly.
  • Ask questions in your sessions. We are brining PollEV back again.  Allowing you to ask questions from your phone and vote on your favorite questions. So take advantage and get your questions answered!
  • Make new friends. Sit with someone you don’t know at lunch. Or find a QASymphony employee – we are a friendly bunch and love talking to our customers and community of testers. You’ll see many of us around!
  • Manage your FOMO. Check in on our hashtag, #QualityJam17, on social media to see what’s going on.
  • Set yourself up for success after Quality Jam 2017. Pass on those notes you took to teammates who were unable to attend. Tip: hold lunch sessions when you’re back in the office to watch some of the video recordings – all sessions (except the Forrester and Stuff You Should Know sessions) will be recorded and available online later.

What Do I Need to Bring?

Not sure what to bring to make the most out of Quality Jam?  Check out our list below:

  • Business cards! Go ahead and pack these right now.  Nothing is worse than when you are having a great conversation and realize you left your cards at home.  And maybe come up with a system for remembering people and getting people to remember you. (tip: LinkedIn and Twitter can be a great strategy)
  • Need some QASymphony gear? We have you covered, but you might want to bring along Quality Jam or QASymphony shirts from previous years!
  • Bring a phone charger. Staying powered up all day while you’re tweeting, taking photos of slides and collecting Quality jam 2017 memories can be difficult so bring something to keep your charge going all day (tip: sit by an outlet during sessions and charge up).
  • Pack comfy shoes and layers. You’ll want to be comfortable while walking around so make sure to wear your comfy shoes.  And I know Atlanta is hot, but hotels tend to be chilly so a sweater or layer is always a good idea.

What have we missed? Quality Jam veterans, what are some of your tips for getting the most out of Quality Jam and what are you looking forward to the most this year? Let us know in the comments or on twitter#QualityJam17!
