QASymphony Enhances Jira Integration with qTest 8.9 Release
If you are a qTest customer leveraging our best-in-class, real-time Jira integration, you might want to keep reading this announcement. That’s because we have just released a major enhancement to our Jira integration that will streamline your test planning, issue traceability and enterprise-level reporting. Here’s a roundup of the most exciting feature enhancements in qTest 8.9, released earlier this week.

Release Integration with Jira Fix Versions and Sprints
In an agile environment, it is important that everyone in the development team is on the same page when it comes to the scope of work. User stories and requirements can change rapidly, but they can also be added or removed from the release scope at a moment’s notice. For testing, this affects what items need test coverage and where time should be allocated for test execution.
With our new release integration with Jira fix versions and sprints, we remove the confusion of what Jira issues need test coverage during release and sprint planning. And you can feel confident that no issue goes untested, as any scope changes will appear in real time in new coverage reports within qTest Insights.
How It Works
In the project integrations settings of qTest Manager, you will now see a new option called “Release Integration” located in the Jira configuration screen. From here, you will add a release type of either Jira fix versions or sprints that will populate in the Test Plan module of qTest Manager. After this is set, you can then choose the below retrieve data options.
Using Fix Versions
Retrieve data from Unreleased and/or Released Fix Versions
Auto-populate requirements in Release Scope
Retrieve data from Active, Future and/or Completed Sprints
Auto-populate requirements in Release Scope
Once this is configured, qTest Manager will automatically create releases from Jira fix versions or sprints and auto-populate the Test Plan release scope based on Jira issues.
Quicker Test Case Linking and Better Execution Planning
Once you have pulled in your fix version or sprint scope, you can now quickly link test cases to Jira issues and better plan test runs based on Jira versions or sprint scopes. Now, when a tester creates the link between a test case and Jira requirements, they will see the option to select the add button in the linked requirements area and then chose the Test Plan tab to quickly link requirements that are a part of the Jira fix version.
After you have added test cases to Jira requirements in scope, it is a seamless process to add those tests for execution based on requirement scope. Select the add runs button within the Test Execution module and chose the Test Plan tab to pull in test runs associated with requirements in the Jira fix version scope.
More Jira Reports With qTest Insights
Since this is a major Jira release, we have added more reports that relate directly to the sprint and version data now coming into qTest Manager. Using qTest Insights, you will notice more out-of-the-box reports located in the dashboards tabs, and more Jira data located in the explore data option.

To access the reports above, simply select your dashboard tabs and search for “Jira” to add the new charts.
New 9-Box Experience
Let’s face it, you never use tools that you don’t know about. Our hope is that customers are utilizing every test solution they have available in the qTest platform. This is why we have added a new 9-box experience, which allows our customers to quickly navigate to their qTest products and show which products they need. We hope that this new experience will increase product adoption, keep customers informed of new product releases and allow them to use different solutions for new test strategies.
If you see a red lock icon, this indicates that you don’t have user permissions to use the qTest product. Now that you know, you can ask your site admin to grant you access. If a certain qTest product isn’t available in your account, contact us today to discuss an upgrade.
